Khammam: Constable attacks in-laws over dowry

Members of both families attended the court on Monday.

Khammam: A case has been filed against A. Venkateswarlu, a constable posted in Khammam, for attacking relatives of his daughter-in-law in the court premises on Monday.

Venkateswarlu's son Bhaskarachari got married to Thoudoju Vijaya eight months ago. The two families quarrelled about dowry and Vijaya filed a case in court against her mother-in-law and husband and others for demanding dowry.

She also filed a case for maintenance from her husband.

Members of both families attended the court on Monday. Constable Venkatewsarlu and his wife Annapurna and three others were present as were Vijaya and her relatives.

The two sides had an exchange of words which snowballed into an attack as Venkateswarlu beat his daughter-in-law’s family members with a stick. The other side tried to counter attack.

Later, Vijaya and her family members lodged a complaint against constable Venkateswarlu and four others. A case has been filed and a video of the constable wielding a stick and attacking the family of his daughter-in-law will be used as evidence in the case.
