MUMBAI: To put up confiscated properties of fugitive don
Dawood Ibrahim under the hammer at the earliest, teams of the Smuggling & Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (Safema) and valuation officers have begun evaluating the value of seized properties at Dawood's hometown, Mumbke village in Khed taluka of the
Konkan. Safema deals with anti-smuggling cases.
In April, Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar's Nagpada flat had been auctioned by Safema for Rs 1.8 crore in the city.
Most of Dawood's family fled India after the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that killed 257.
The Safema team and valuation officers visited Mumbke village recently and began measurement of seized properties. "The prime job of Safema officials is to identify properties," said an official. Officials have taken measurements of two land plots, a petrol pump, the
bungalow where Dawood and his siblings spent several years as teenagers.
All the four properties surveyed on Monday are registered in the name of Dawood's mother Amina Bi. His father, Ibrahim Kaskar, a retired head constable of Mumbai crime branch, had no property in his name.
"The valuer will give us the worth of these properties in three or four weeks and we will place an ad for
auction in newspapers," said a Safema officer.
The officials expressed happiness that people have been coming forward to buy Dawood's properties through auction and the "fear factor" has vanished.
