CHENNAI: Election to Vellore Lok Sabha constituency, which was rescinded following seizure of cash from the premises of a DMK functionary, would be held on August 5, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday. The results would be announced on August 9.
A statement from the ECI said election gazette notification would be issued on July 11.
The last date for filing papers is July 18. Nominations will be scrutinized on July 19, and the last date for withdrawing the candidature is July 22.
Model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect. All government vehicles given to elected representatives would be withdrawn immediately, Vellore collector A Shanmuga Sundaram said. Nodal Officers would be appointed shortly, he added.
The election to the constituency was originally scheduled for April 18 along that in other constituencies in Tamil Nadu. However, the election was rescinded in the wake of seizure of unaccounted money from the premises of a DMK functionary who was close to party candidate Kathir Anand.
