‘We are all Migrants - No to Racism’ Petition Against Hatred Towards Migrants

The campaign of "We are all Migrants - No to Racism" has launched an online petition in response to the recently escalating hatred and lynch attempts towards migrants in Turkey.
The petition has underlined that extreme right wing politics and authoritarianism have also led migrants to become targets across the world.
Hate speech spreads on social media
Around 190 people, including artists, politicians, lawyers and writers have supported the campaign so far. The petition has emphasized that hate speech towards the migrants has been spreading especially on social media and this hate speech, then, turns into physical assaults.
Referring to the incident that turned into a lynch attempt against the Syrians living in İkitelli, İstanbul, the petition has further highlighted, "As it is usually the case, racist hatred was again ignited with an allegation of harassment."

Campaign also defines racism
The petition has also offered its own definition of racism:
"Though the news igniting lynches usually prove to be wrong, attributing the action of a single individual to a whole group and holding all Syrians responsible for a crime allegedly committed by a single Syrian is racism."
Authorities called for duty
Emphasizing that the impunity in racist attacks encourages the assaulters to seek new targets, the petition has also raised concerns that migrants are held responsible for the death of Turkish soldiers in Syria, which has led to an increase in attacks against Syrian migrants in Turkey.
The petition ends with a call to the authorities to take the necessary precautions to ensure migrants' safety of life and to enact deterrent punishments of the ones who organize these attacks:
"The migrants who are employed under the worst conditions and struggling against poverty and racism are our brothers and sisters. Let us build solidarity and fraternity with them!"
