UDUPI: Soon, purchase of sand in the district will be through a mobile application. With inspiration from the Dakshina Kannnada district administration that launched dksandbazaar.com, earlier this year, Udupi deputy commissioner Hephsiba R Korlapati said an app for purchase of sand is being developed, and will be launched soon.
Presiding over the district sand coordination committee meeting on Thursday, the DC said, “This is an attempt to curb sand related irregularities and middlemen.
Once the app is launched, all purchases will be made through the app.” She said people will get sand from the nearest location and payments will be made online. “Sand will reach one’s doorsteps, and there is no need for the user to deploy a vehicle for sand transportation. Once sand is booked, details on the sand being loaded and the vehicle used for transportation in will reflect on the app. The entire process is transparent. The details of contractors and the vehicles used for transportation will also be available on the app,” she said.
Once the app is ready, a training programme on how to use it, will be organised for the contractors and truck drivers transporting sand. Information will also be shared with the public. Aspects to be included in the app were discussed in detail during the meeting.
Additional SP Vidyakumari, Kundapur Range forest officer Prabhakaran, assistant commissioner Mudukeshwara, mines and geology officer Ranji Naik and other officials were present. Call: 9663303409
