BENGALURU: Almost three months after a 21-year-old engineering student was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the outskirts of Raichur, the forensic report that will help establish the cause of her death is still pending.
“We are ready to file the chargesheet. We have finished other parts of our investigation and are waiting for the FSL report. Once the report reaches us, we will file the chargesheet within a week,” an officer from the CID probing the death said.

MA Saleem, additional director general of police (crime and technical wing) said the report will get ready once all the tests are complete. “All the samples and articles submitted should be tested and retested before coming to a conclusion. We will submit the reports within the stipulated period. Cases like this are treated on priority. There will be no delay at all from FSL,” he asserted.
According to FSL staff, at least 40 samples including viscera, blood, hair, and DNA of the woman are being analysed. “Tests on certain samples last weeks. We need at least 40-60 days to submit a final report in such cases,” FSL sources said.
The burnt body of the woman, who had gone missing on April 13, was found hanging from a tree in a farm on the outskirts of Raichur on April 16.
According to police, the girl attended her college on April 13 morning, but was not seen later. Her mother filed a complaint with Netajinagar police station, accusing one Sudarshan Yadav, a friend of the girl, of raping and killing her daughter. Yadav was arrested as the death sparked off huge protests in the town.
A suicide note, allegedly found next to the girl’s body, blamed academic failure for her taking the extreme step, but parents dismissed it saying their daughter had done well in her exams.
Later, CID took samples of the girl’s II PU final exam answerscripts to tally the handwriting. Sources said the handwriting in the answerscript matched with that in the suicide note. “We shall come to a final conclusion only after handwriting experts from FSL submit the report,” CID officer said.
