AURANGABAD: The economic offences wing of the Aurangabad police on Thursday arrested three people on charges of theft and forgery for allegedly stealing 58kg gold worth Rs 27.31 crore from the city outlet of a big jewellery firm over the past six months. Among those arrested was the floor manager of the outlet.
The jewellery firm's partner, Vishwanath Pethe, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that they were targeted between October 2018 and June this year, when they noticed the depleting stock.
Pethe approached the police when the firm found out that the gold was stolen from their outlet in Aurangabad by three people, including a woman, in connivance with the manager, Ankur Rane.
Pethe told the police that Rane was responsible for business transactions in Aurangabad but he didn't have any authority to sell goods on credit.
On questioning, Rane admitted that he had given gold jewellery weighing 58kg to Rajendra Kisanlal Jain, his wife, and his nephew Lokesh Jain. Rane told Pethe that the Jains had vouched to return the gold.
