PM Modi in Varanasi Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BJP’s countrywide membership drive from Varanasi on Saturday in presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and party working president JP Nadda. The Prime Minister is addressed around 5,000 party workers at Deendayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre in Bada Lalpur.
During his speech, PM Modi talked about the Union Budget 2019, which was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday. He said, “There is a saying in English ‘size of the cake matters’, meaning, the bigger the cake, bigger the slice people will get. That is why we have a goal of a $5 trillion dollar economy. The bigger the economy’s target, the greater the country’s prosperity.”
Before this, he unveiled a statue of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri’s statue at Varanasi airport and a tree-plantation campaign. Several other party leaders also took part in BJP’s membership drive across the country. BJP president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also launch the drive from Hyderabad in Telangana while Ram Lal and Shivraj Singh Chouhan will do the same at the party headquarter in New Delhi.
“These days homestay culture is gaining wide popularity. Even during the Pravasiya Bhartiya Divas, many people had offered to let guests stay at their homes. This can also be taken forward as a commercial activity, and thereby a move in the direction to become a larger economy,” said the Prime Minister in Varanasi.

PM Modi also said, "Nearly 2 crore houses to be built in villages only to have a pucca roof over every poor homeless by 2022. In the coming few years, 1.25 lakh km of roads will be built in villages."
Talking about the infrastructural development in the country, PM Modi said, "We are building infrastructure throughout the country as per the requirements of the 21st century. Infrastructure for storing produce in villages, construction of modern facilities in cities, efforts are being made at all levels."

PM Modi said, "We are also focusing on building a clean India, a healthy India, a beautiful India to make the $5 trillion journey easier. The contribution made by every citizen of the country to sanitation over the years has reinforced our efforts to build a healthy India. The Ayushman Bharat Scheme is also proving to be very helpful for a healthy India. About 50 crore poor people in the country are getting free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year. Nearly 32 lakh poor patients have benefited so far."
PM Modi also said, "We have already set up a Water Power Ministry to provide water to every household in the country and a water power campaign has also been launched. It will benefit our mothers and sisters who suffer a lot for water."
The Prime Minister also said, "The country was also run earlier and also progressed. But now, New India is excited to 'run'. This dream is linked to us becoming a $5 trillion economy. The goal I am talking about today will force you to think afresh and will fill you with a new goal and a new enthusiasm. With new resolutions and new dreams, we will move forward and that is the way to get rid of difficulties,"

PM Modi paid homage to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He said, "I pay homage to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjeeji. Today I have got the opportunity to launch a membership campaign from Kashi. It is a coincidence that this building is in the name of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyayji and the programme is starting from our Kashi. That's a trinity on which we're launching a membership campaign."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BJP's membership drive from Varanasi on Saturday in presence of UP chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP working president JP Nadda and Mahendra Nath Pandey.
JP Nadda said, "We will launch the BJP membership drive today. We will do it digitally and through the NaMo app. I want to share with you that we have targetted to reach 6 crore workers. We hope in coming years the BJP will spread in the country with more than 10 crore workers and will break its own record to emerge as the largest party in the country. he also urged people to participate in plantation drive and assured that every BJP worker will plant a tree."
Yogi Adityanath and JP Nadda congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his win in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Nadda said, " PM Modi has carved thousands of party worker. It is a great privilege for all of us that today the Prime Minister will launch the BJP membership campaign from his constituency."

Earlier in the morning, PM Modi had tweeted about the details of his Varanasi visit today. "At around 11:30 this morning, I will address the programme in Varanasi marking the launch of @BJP4India’s Membership Drive. During my speech, I will elaborate on my thoughts on the Budget and India’s growth trajectory in the coming years," he tweeted.
