HOWRAH: The BJP Mahila Morcha supporters, including a pregnant woman, Shobha Sengupta (26), were allegedly beaten up at Babudanga in Howrah’s Malipanchghara on Saturday when they were celebrating the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. While the BJP pointed fingers at the Trinamool Congress, the ruling party denied the allegation.
A complaint has been lodged with the Malipanchghara police station.

BJP workers on Saturday morning held a programme at an auto stand in Babudanga commemorating the birth anniversary of Mookerjee.
“Some Trinamool supporters led by north Howrah TMC president Gautam Choudhury reached the spot and started beating us. They did not even spare women and pushed me to the ground before kicking me,” Sengupta alleged. She was rushed to T L Jaiswal State General Hospital. Choudhury, however, denied involvement of any party supporter. Minister Arup Roy said, “I have heard about the incident. We will take strong action against the guilty if their role is proved,” he said.
