BAREILLY: At least seven cows were run over by a train near Kail village under Gunnaur police station limits in Sambhal district of UP on Sunday morning.
After the villagers spotted the bovine carcasses, they informed the police, who said that all carcasses had been buried and they were investigating the matter.
Police said that a herd of bovine cattle was taking rest on the railway tracks when Aligarh-Moradabad Passenger train ran them over in the wee hours.
One cow was injured badly.
“Upon learning the incident, we rushed to the spot and removed the carcasses from the track. Using a JCB machine all dead animals were buried at the nearby ground. Besides, the injured cow has been sent to veterinary hospital for treatment,” sub-inspector Ashish Punia, Babrala outpost in-charge, said.
Villagers expressed their anger saying that over the past one month close to 20 cows had been killed in road accident in the area. They demanded the stray cattle be sent to cowsheds.
Chief development officer Umesh Tyagi said, “Cows had been abandoned by their owners after they were unproductive. We are looking into the matter to trace out cows’ owners to take action against them.”
