Separatists strike leads to suspension of Amarnath Yatra from Jammu

Following a strike called by separatist in Kashmir valley, in order to mark the third death anniversary of Burhan Wani, former Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, the Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Monday.

This comes as a precautionary measure following the strike. The Yatra to the 3,880-meter-high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas will be continued on Tuesday, said the Officials.

Since the beginning of the holy pilgrimage from Jammu on June 30, a total of 36,309 pilgrims have left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp.

In the wake of the strike raged by the separatists group, the Amarnath-bound convoy, that leaves the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in the wee hours was not allowed to head ahead in order to prevent any untoward incident in the valley.
