LUCKNOW: BJP's
Smriti Irani may have breached the Gandhi fortress of Amethi in 2019, but
Rahul Gandhi has not given up on Amethi despite the drubbing.
The former three-time MP is all set to make a comeback in Amethi and re-kindle the bond with the people.
Though the official plan is yet to be finalised, sources in the party confirmed Rahul Gandhi may come calling on July 10.
"He will meet party workers and also get a first-hand understanding of reasons that led to his defeat in the Gandhi pocket borough," said a senior leader associated with preparations.
In the day-long visit, Rahul will hold an assembly segment wise meeting with party workers. "Rahul ji lost by a margin of over 55,000 votes, but he secured over 4.13 lakh votes, which is more than votes bagged by him in 2014
Lok Sabha elections when he polled 4.08 lakh votes," said a Congress worker in Amethi.
Earlier, Congress constituted a two-member panel comprising UPA chairperson
Sonia Gandhi's representative K L Sharma and AICC secretary Zubair Khan to do an autopsy on the debacle.
Citing panel's finding, sources said: "Non-cooperation by
Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party workers at the grassroots led to Rahul's loss, despite a commitment on support."
