The Donnelly Group is expanding to Mount Pleasant.

The homegrown hospitality company is proposing to open a pub in the South Main Street area, also known as SoMa.

The liquor primary business is to be located on the ground floor of Domain Condos, a four-storey condo and commercial building at the southeast corner of Main Street and East 12th Avenue.

“The establishment will offer patrons food and beverage service in a lounge environment,” Sarah Hicks, deputy chief licence inspector and licence office manager with the City of Vancouver, wrote in a report to council.

According to Hicks, the place will “offer a variety of locally sourced hot and cold snacks”.

“Entertainment supporting local up-and-coming artists and talents will be showcased from time to time,” Hicks added.

Hicks recalled that the initial proposal was for extended hours of liquor service, which are 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., Sunday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., Friday and Saturday.

Because of concerns by local residents, primarily those living at Domain Condos, the service hours were changed to standard hours: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday.

Extended hours of liquor service “may be considered after the business has operated for the first six months under the Standard Hours of liquor service”, Hicks wrote.

According to Hicks, city staff recommend council endorsement of the Donnelly Group’s provincial application for a liquor licence.

If approved, patrons will access the pub at 208 East 12th Avenue.
