NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia’s Residential Coaching Academy (RCA), which is known for producing a large number of civil services candidates, has seen an increase of 80% in the number of applicants for its UPSC Civil Services 2020 coaching this year. This year, 13,129 aspirants have applied for RCA compared with 7,245 in 2018. RCA enrolls 150 candidates for coaching every year.
MA Farooqui, director of RCA, attributed the increase in the number of applicants to the institute’s success rate.
“The candidates receive coaching, good academic environment and excellent faculty support from both JMI as well as guest teachers at the academy,” he added.
Junaid Ahmad, the all-India third topper in the 2018 civil services exam, had received coaching at RCA. “In all, 43 candidates successfully made it to the civil services in 2018. While 29 were residing at RCA, 14 were trained for the interview through orientation classes, expert lectures and mock interviews with in-depth feedback,” an official said.
So far, RCA has produced nearly 200 civil servants and more than 250 students have been selected in other central and provincial services since its inception in 2010. The academy was established by UGC for SC, ST, minority and women candidates. Students are selected on the basis of an all-India written test followed by an interview.
