PATNA: The
Patna district administration will soon start the process of geo-tagging of lakes as a part of water conversation under the
Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA), DM Kumar Ravi said after a review meeting here on Tuesday.
Ravi said officials were not aware of the exact location of various lakes and geo-tagging will help create a database to be used for reaching the spot and other purposes in future.
He also said the state fisheries department would be roped in for digging up the lakes for rearing fish.
He said a soaking pit will be made at all those government schools which have hand-pumps to conserve water. Ravi asked the officials of minor
irrigation department to stress on the construction of ahar-pynes, which used to be the traditional floodwaters harvesting system.
Earlier, a meeting in this regard was held on Saturday and the DM had instructed the officials concerned to construct check dams and complete on priority basis the projects related to water conversation, digging and maintenance of old ponds and
rainwater harvesting on the rooftop of government buildings in panchayat areas.
During the meeting, Ravi also instructed the officials to check labour migration and provide job opportunity in the state.
JSA was launched across 256 districts in the country, including 12 in
Bihar, on July 1 with focus on water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of water bodies and afforestation.
