The anonymous nominator said Ms Street – or Coach Chyla to her athletes – started Rebellion Allstars cheerleading just under five years ago.

‘Ever since she opened the doors to Rebellion, Chyla’s focus has not only been on providing Guernsey’s only after-school cheerleading club but also providing a safe, fun and supportive space for those of all ages, genders, abilities and sizes to grow in confidence,’ they said.

‘It is also a space where people can make friends and learn skills that can be used in the world outside of cheerleading.’

The atmosphere in the cheer gym was described by the nominator as a family, making sure everyone has a safe space to practise and be supported in whatever they do.

‘The after-school club provides an opportunity for those who may not take part in school sports clubs to have a go at one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports.’

Coach Chyla was nominated for her hard work in making cheerleading known in the island and her work in promoting inclusivity in the sport through local performances.

‘She has been instrumental in putting Guernsey on the cheerleading map, with the island now recognised as a World Cheerleading Championship member nation, thanks to her commitment to the sport and the island,’ the nominator said.
