BOLPUR/SURI: A day after explosives were found in Birbhum’s Rampurhat, more were found in Bolpur’s Panrui even as Trinamool Congress and BJP clashed in Birbhum’s Suri amid reported throwing of bombs.
On Tuesday night, 238 packets of ammonium nitrate and detonators were found in Rampurhat’s Borjol village. The next morning, three containers full of crude bombs were found in Panrui.

Details about the morni-ng’s recovery was not available but Birbhum SP Shyam Singh was forthcoming on Tuesday night’s recovery. “Acting on source informati-on, 238 packets of ammonium nitrate, each containing 50kg, were recovered from an un-authorised storeroom between Borjol and Rodhipur villages,” he said. “During further search, eight bags, each with 10 packets of 1,000 detonators, were found stashed in a nearby culvert.”
On Wednesday, Sahapur in Birbhum’s Suri saw a TMC-BJP clash over allegations of cut money against a TMC leader. The clash happened about 12 hours after villagers agitated in front of Enamul Haque’s house, alleging he had taken cut money to enroll them as beneficiaries of government schemes. Early on Wednesday, his supporters allegedly started hurling bombs and attacked those who had gathered outside his house late on Tuesday.
Sadaipur police did face resistance when they tried to enter the trouble zone. On being tipped off, miscreants allegedly hurled bombs on the approach road to Sahapur village. Police waited outside and called for reinforcements. A large armed police force arrived from Suri and brought the situation under control. Nine persons were arrested for the clash.
BJP supporter Sheikh Nabi said: “We demanded refund of cut money. But Trinamool supporters attacked us.”
Haque said: “Neither my party supporters nor I were involved in the bombing. Supporters of BJP, CPM and Congress jointly attacked my house.”
SP Singh said: “The situation is under control. Police are maintaining vigil. Raids are on and nine people have been arrested so far.”
