India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.73%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Auto, Metals and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.69%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 7.59% or 25.25 points to trade at 354.80 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 4.96% or 12.65 points to end at 267.30 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 4.59% or 110.05 points to 2507.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 1.41% or 9.50 points to trade at 665.70 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 1.22% or 33.40 points to end at 2711.70 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 1.17% or 5.05 points to 426.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which rose 4.46% to 2507.25, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was up 3.76% to settle at 75.85 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 3.63% to close at 156.90.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.27% to 666.00 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which lost 1.06% to settle at 2712.75 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 0.99% to 426.70 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 808 to 761 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1180 rose and 1156 declined, while 148 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 8.54% to 12.4700 a new 6-months low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.79% or 11.10 to $1423.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.58% or 0.35 to hit $60.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.36 to trade at $67.37 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 68.455, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 77.1730.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 96.502.
