The Little Shop of Spinning is open for business in Roanoke.

The shop sells spinning wheels, looms and related products, such as fiber and yarn.

Phia Shanelec owns the business with her husband Mark Neary. The shop had operated in Fort Wayne for 10 years before Shanelec succeeded the owner and relocated the business to Roanoke, where she resides. She opened the shop on June 15.

Shanelec’s main product lines are Ashford, from New Zealand, and Kromski, from Poland. In addition to selling products from those companies, she offers repair services for their spinning wheels and looms.

The shop is currently open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as by appointment.

Shanelec offers after-hours events at the shop, which she announces on the shop’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/Little
ShopOfSpinning. These events include “spin-ins,” which see people who like to spin, knit or crochet come to the shop and do those activities while enjoying conversation with others. Shanelec provides snacks.

This fall, Shanelec hopes to start offering introductory classes to spinning at the shop.

The Little Shop of Spinning is located at 303 E. Second St., Roanoke, where Commercial Street meets East Second Street.
