VARANASI: By alleging that she was stopped from entering a toilet by the security guards of proctorial board with discriminatory attitude, a Dalit girl who is an Arts student has left Banaras Hindu University.
However, the accused security guards clarified that she was stopped as she was entering a male toilet. Taking serious note of her complaint, chief proctor OP Rai has formed a three-member committee to probe into the allegations of girl student.

The student lodged a complaint with chief proctor on Thursday. In her complaint, she mentioned that she is a student of Faculty of Arts and an active member of BHU SC/ST students’ programme organizing committee. She said that for the past five days, she was working at a help desk named as 'BHU Bahujan Helpdesk’ near Mahila Mahavidyalaya on BHU campus to help the newly admitted students.
She alleged that on Thursday afternoon, she tried to enter Mahila Mahavidyalaya premises to use its toilet when security personnel stopped her showing discriminatory attitude. They asked her to go to the hospital or college toilet, alleged the girl student, terming the act of guards as inhuman and illegal. She demanded disciplinary and punitive action against the guards.
When TOI contacted BHU chief proctor OP Rai on Friday, he admitted that a written complaint of the girl has been received after which he personally asked about her grievances. Later, the accused security guards were also summoned, he said, adding, during initial investigation, the guards claimed that they stopped her because she was entering a male toilet.
Later, Rai said, a three-member committee including two women officials was formed to probe into her allegations. He said that any action could be ensured after getting investigation report of the committee.
