India drowned its joys and sorrows in tubs of ice cream during World Cup matches, shows food app survey
MUMBAI: The country seems to have drowned its joys and sorrows in tubs of ice cream during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 matches this past week. A summary of the food orders placed by diners on a food delivery app has shown that Mumbai consumed ice cream, burgers and pizza while dosa, bread and paratha topped in other cities. A dejected fan pleaded for one extra gulab jamun "because today India lost the World Cup I am a little bit in depression".
The Uber Eats World Cup Binge-o-meter released Friday showed India's top match day meals.

Indian cuisine occupied the top spot in the countrywide survey conducted between May 30 and July 11. A nation on the edge of its seat was binge eating carbs and cooling off with ice-cream. During India versus Pakistan match, burger emerged as the most ordered dish.
Overall, most orders came for bread followed by ice cream. Fans indulged in cheesy burgers during the eagerly awaited India-Pakistan encounter. Chennai supplied the most orders during the season closely followed by Bangalore and Pune.
As a whole, bread was elected man of the match across the field from Delhi, Jaipur, Indore, Kolkata, Pune to Lucknow. Bangalore found its calling in dosa, Ahmedabad chose pizza, while ice cream scored in Mumbai. Nagpur batted for samosa, Amritsar snacked on burgers while paratha held a firm lead in Chandigarh.
"During the India-Pakistan match, when the rain gods took over Old Trafford in England, it was raining burgers across India, which emerged as the most savoured dish of the day, followed by the meal of the millennials, pizza," the survey reports.

The top match day meal in Chennai was pizza, shawarma and idli, in Chandigarh samosa, pizza and burgers held the fort while Pune ordered burger, pizza and biryani. Mumbai gave its heart to ice cream, burger and pizza while Delhi selected roti, burger and roll.
Indore fans celebrate both victories and defeat with food, it would seem. An app user from that city who was likely hosting a match-day gathering placed the biggest order for 233 dishes including paneer biryani, special chicken biryani and kaju biryani. Interestingly, the smallest order was also placed by a diner from Indore for tawa roti at Rs 13, followed by a consumer in Chennai who simply ordered a bottle of water to quench his thirst.
Sugar cravings during the World Cup were satiated by ice cream, cake and gulab jamun in that order.
Fans held on to their sense of humour even in the throes of depression. One diner ordered for "a scoop of cricket instead of pistachio" while another fan politely requested Uber Eats to save the day with some sugar rush. His comment read, "Pls send change of 500 and also add 1 extra gulab jamun because today India lost the World Cup I am a little bit in depression".
