TMC leader shot in Murshidabad
Behrampore: A Trinamool leader was killed on Friday by goons in a car who waylaid his SUV, dragged him out and shot him point blank in the chest in Murshidabad’s Hariharpara.
Saiful Hassan (44), the Hariharpara block Trinamool convenor, died on the spot. Witnesses said the attackers fled in their car as Saiful fell on the road in Hariharpara’s Pradipdanga area.

Amid panic in the locality, a large police force was deployed. No arrests have been made so far.
Saiful, who was with CPM and was leader of the Hariharpara zonal DYFI, had switched to Trinamool two years ago. He was also president of the local Lalnagar High School.
Allegations and counter-allegations flew soon after the murder. Hariharpara MLA Niyamat Sheikh, to whom Saiful was close, alleged that “BJP and Congress goons jointly murdered our strong organiser in Hariharpara, where Trinamool took a good lead in the recent Lok Sabha elections”.
BJP and Congress leaders rubbished the MLA’s allegation, saying the murder might have been the outcome of an internal Trinamool conflict.
Saiful’s wife Ardosha Bibi, pradhan of Humaipur gram panchayat, said: “My husband was going to Hariharpara for preparations for Saturday’s meeting at Beldanga, where state minister and observer Suvendu Adhikari will be present.”
Murshidabad SP Mukesh Kumar said: “We have received some important clues after questioning locals and the slain leader’s wife. The culprits will be arrested soon.”
