Malda mango wins laurels at Delhi festival
Malda: Malda farmer Zaved Amin has won five prizes at the mango festival organized by Delhi’s tourism department at Dilli Haat from July 5-7.
Amin, the lone participant from Bengal, had taken almost 40 varieties to the festival in which mango farmers from all over the country took part. Judges tested the fruits for two days. Finally, Amin’s varieties of Fajli and Amrapali won the first and runners-up prizes while his Mallika bagged a special prize.
Amin owns a 25-bigha plot at Gazole where, apart from traditional varieties, he experiments with new varieties.
Rahul Chakraborty of the horticulture department said: “Amin’s success will encourage others engaged in organic farming and make Malda mango more popular in the country.”
