ALL-SCHOLASTICS BOYS VOLLEYBALL

WILLIAM BANDLER, NEEDHAM
Bandler put together a stellar junior season for the South semifinalist Rockets, as the outside hitter tallied 214 kills to go with 79 digs. Named Needham’s Most Improved Player for the 2019 season, Bandler also earned a spot on the Massachusetts Boys’ Volleyball All-State Team.

JOAO BOAVENTURA, MILFORD
Boaventura saved his best season for last as the senior recorded 332 of his 379 career kills while also logging 39 aces and 27 blocks from the outside hitter position. A soccer player during the fall, Boaventura will continue his playing career at Johnson & Wales next year.

ERIC CHABON, BROOKLINE
The senior outside hitter amassed 350 kills, 158 digs and 51 aces this season in leading the Warriors to an 11-6 record and a berth in the South sectional tournament. The Bay State Conference All-Star ended his career with 718 kills, 318 digs and 51 aces. He will study business and play volleyball at California Lutheran University.

JAMES CHUNG, WINCHESTER
The senior outside hitter was a major force behind Winchester’s march to the North sectional title. An All-State volleyball performer, Chung competed on the HP Nerva Team. In past years, Chung competed the USA A3 and A2 HP Camps.

GAVIN EMENAKER, NEWTON NORTH
Emenaker was a do-it-all contributor for the South champion Tigers, as the junior setter racked up an impressive 849 assists, 293 digs, 218 kills, 70 blocks and 54 aces. His efforts on the court were enough to earn him a Bay State Conference All-Star nod and as well as a spot on the state’s First Team.

RYAN FULLER, WAYLAND
The junior was one of the premier outside hitters in the state, leading the Warriors to a 14-8 record and a berth in the North quarterfinals. A two-year varsity volleyball performer, Fuller earned a spot on the Dual County League All-Star team this past season.

THOMAS GIRARD, GREATER NEW BEDFORD VOKE
Girard helped guide the Bears to a 19-2 season which included a trip to the South semifinal, as the senior libero averaged 19.6 digs a match for a grand total of 412 on the year. Girard holds the program’s all-time record for the category with 960 digs. Fresh off a Massachusetts First-Team selection this past spring, Girard will continue his playing career next year at Johnson & Wales.

NATHAN GOLDBERG, NEEDHAM
Goldberg built upon a solid career as a junior with the libero managing over six games of 20 or more digs while also maintaining a 2.35 service receive average. A captain and three-year member of the varsity, Goldberg picked up team MVP honors for the 19-3 Rockets. Goldberg plays soccer for Needham in the fall.

JACK HAWK, LINCOLN-SUDBURY
A four-year member of the varsity, Hawk rose to the title of team captain as the senior libero logged 9 percent of his team’s points on serve (84) while also accounting for 26 percent of his team’s number of digs (403) to become a Dual County League Second-Team All-Star. A three-time Central sectional finalist, Hawk finishes his career with 214 points on serve, 565 receives of serve and 505 digs.

SOLOMON HEARN, CAMBRIDGE
Hearn recovered from a broken foot suffered a year earlier to lead the Falcons in both hitting percentage (.210) and kills (236) as a junior while also tacking on 223 digs and 20 blocks. The outside hitter is a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys playing the classical cello. A two-year basketball player as well, Hearn plans to attend college where he wants to study a biology related major.

BOGDAN IVANOV, BOSTON LATIN SCHOOL
A towering 6-foot-6 opposite hitter, Ivanov used his size to pile up 417 kills, averaging just over 20 a match, to lead the Dual County League in points. A Massachusetts First-Team selection as a junior, Ivanov piloted the Wolfpack to a 20-4 season, a DCL championship and a run to the North sectional final. He is a member of the National Honor Society and plays basketball during the winter season.

ROLAND JIANG, ACTON-BOXBORO
Jiang polished off a strong career with the Colonials this spring as the senior setter collected 839 assists, 148 digs and 48 aces to earn a spot on the Massachusetts All-State First-Team. For his career, he finished with 1,956 assists, 546 digs and 102 aces. Jiang will attend the University of Wisconsin where he will major in computer science.

CAM LEE, NEWTON NORTH
Lee had himself a breakout junior season for the South sectional champion Tigers as the right-side hitter put up season bests in kills (207), digs (203), aces (41) and blocks (41). He was selected to the Rhody Invitational All-Tournament. For his career, Lee has 253 kills, 247 digs, 66 aces and 52 blocks.

BRETT OLEN, NATICK
The senior setter was the central figure behind Natick’s impressive run to the state finals. He recorded 643 kills, 99 digs, 37 blocks and 27 aces on the season. In the offseason, Olen competes for both the Beantown Volleyball and SMASH 18s’. He will attend San Diego State University in the fall.

ETHAN PHILLIPS, BC HIGH
Phillips maintained his production in terms of kills and blocks with 177 and 46 respectively, but added a little something extra to his game as a senior with season-bests in both digs (245) and aces (28). With his efforts, Phillips received a Massachusetts Second-Team nod as well as becoming a South District All-Star. A member of the National Honor Society, Phillips will attend Bryant University in the fall where he will study actuarial mathematics.

TYLER RUSSELL, NEWTON SOUTH
Russell boosted the Lions all the way to the South sectional championship game, as the junior registered 192 kills and maintained a 2.15 passer rating at the outside hitter position. Russell was named to the Dual County League All-Star team for his production. A soccer player in the fall, leading the Lions in scoring on the pitch, Russell plans to continue playing volleyball in college upon graduation.

DELFY SOLER, LAWRENCE
Soler led Lawrence to an 18-4 record and a trip to the North sectional quarterfinal as the senior rounded out his high school tenure by tallying 363 of his 545 career kills. Soler saw a dramatic uptick in production across the board, logging 163 digs, 34 aces and 32 blocks this spring. He enjoys playing basketball and working out and will attend Eastern Nazarene College.

SUJAL TIMILSINA, WINCHESTER
Timilsina was a key piece to Winchester’s first North sectional championship as the 6-foot junior recorded 196 kills. The outside hitter got it done on the defensive end as well with 229 digs while accounting for an average of 10.2 points per match. In the offseason, he plays for the SMASH club team.

ANDREW WANG, BOSTON LATIN
Wang was a force on the defensive end as the senior outside hitter compiled 371 digs for the North finalist Wolfpack. Wang contributed in other areas of the floor as well, putting forth 183 kills to compliment the production of teammate Ivanov, while also serving 37 aces. A member of the National Honor Society, Wang will attend Boston University in the fall.

ILAN VALENCIUS, NORTH QUINCY
Valencius fueled an 18-3 season for the Red Raiders as the senior captain paced the team in kills (220), blocks (51) and aces (45) while also recording 90 digs. His efforts granted him a spot on the Massachusetts South District All-Star Team. A soccer and basketball standout, and member of the National Honor Society, Valencius will study physics at Boston College.
