Gujarat roadshow in Kolkata to lure tourists from Bengal

With an eye on boosting its share of tourists from Bengal, Gujarat tourism hosted its first road show in Kolkata on Saturday. Tourism minister Jawahar Chavan, who was in the city with tourism commissioner Jenu Dewan, said they were starting their road show from Kolkata as they get a tourist flow of over seven lakh from the state every year.

KOLKATA: With an eye on boosting its share of tourists from Bengal, Gujarat tourism hosted its first road show in Kolkata on Saturday. Tourism minister Jawahar Chavan, who was in the city with tourism commissioner Jenu Dewan, said they were starting their road show from Kolkata as they get a tourist flow of over seven lakh from the state every year.
The Gujarat government is now planning to draw in a huge number of tourists with the Statue of Unity, which will have several new attractions in its vicinity for the first anniversary.

The minister added that apart from the statue, tourists also flocked to Dwarka, Somnath, Ambaji, circuits of Mahatma Gandhi, Gir forest and Little Rann. To facilitate more visitors, the Gujarat government has plans to appeal to the Railways for better a connection from Kolkata.
