PATNA: Union law and information technology minister
Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the Tata Consultancy Services (
TCS) centre in the state capital on Saturday.
Speaking at a function organized in a posh hotel on the occasion, Prasad said it was a good signal for
Bihar as it would not only generate employment, but also attract other firms to invest in the state.
The TCS centre, located at Buddha Colony, has been established at the cost of Rs20 crore and it will provide jobs to 400 IT professionals involved in business processing and software development.
TCS will further expand this centre, he said.
Prasad appreciated India’s growth in the digital field. He said it has also helped in development of the poor as they were now directly getting the benefits of several schemes. Earlier, a major chunk of the benefits was taken by the middlemen. He also said Bihar was among top ten states in the country in terms of online shopping.
Prasad, who represents Patna Sahib in the Lok Sabha, thanked TCS for opening its centre at Patna. As of now, 4.36 lakh people are working with TCS across the globe and 36% were women. In the first quarter of 2018-19 financial year, it recorded a growth of 10.8%.
Before this major IT giant, eight business processing organizations (BPOs) were already operational in the state.
