PATNA: The three-day skill carnival organized by Bihar Skill Development Mission (BSDM) kick-started at Bapu Sabhagar auditorium amid applause and cheers on Saturday. BSDM is a wing of state labour resources department.
Addressing the audience after inaugurating the carnival, state labour resources minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said: “This skill carnival is a symbol of youth empowerment.
It will give an impetus to them to ensure that they contribute to both the state and country’s economy in the best way possible.”
Giving an overview of the carnival and its motive, principal secretary of the department, Dipak Kumar Singh, said: “The programme has been organized on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) to sensitize the youth about the importance of skill development and encourage them to showcase their talents confidently.”
A motivational speech session by Bollywood actor Ashish Vidyarthi was first on the list of events where more than 800 Patnaites interacted with him.
“We have only one life to decide which path would suit us the best. The hunger for achieving aspired dreams must always be alive. What we have done does not matter; what matters is what we are doing now. The best way of achieving anything is by understanding our own importance first,” said Vidyarthi.
He added: “I gained my inspiration from former US president Barack Obama, because he tries to do things differently, things which other people do in an ordinary manner. Try to be creative in everything you do, then only you will get recognized by the society.”

Vidyarthi also addressed a workshop for budding journalists in the city. The eminent actor spoke about the importance of employability and creative utilization of skills.
Addressing another workshop for government officials, he said: “You won’t ever get clarity in life. You have to overcome the hazy path yourself.”
The resplendent cultural competitions which registered attendance by 38 schools and 318 participants were running parallel to the workshop where school students and collegians participated with full vigour. Author Chetan Bhagat is slated to address the participants on the second day of the carnival on Sunday.
The carnival will end on July 15 with prize distribution ceremony. Governor Lalji Tandon is slated to chair the concluding function.
