GORAKHPUR: A woman throttled her four-year-old daughter following a quarrel with her husband, the incident in Chauri Chaura thana area on Saturday morning sending shockwaves through the district.
Pushpa Nishad (30) has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by her husband, Jitendra Nishad (32), and remanded in judicial custody.
According to police, Mahadeva forest village residents Jitendra and Pushpa got married eight years ago and also have a seven-year-old son.
Jitendra works as a lineman in the power department in Gorakhpur. He got the job on compensatory ground after the death of his father, Nandlal Nishad.
Like a dutiful son, Jitendra always gave a part of his salary to his mother who lived with his three brothers in the same village. Pushpa didn't approve of this salary share and often fought with her husband on the matter, police said, quoting from the complaint.
On Saturday morning, Jitendra was at work when he got a call from his neighbours that his wife was beating up their daughter. By the time he rushed back home, little Darpan was already dead.
The couple's son was lucky to be away at his grandmother's house.
SSP Sunil Gupta said Pushpa had been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
"Prima facie, it appears the woman throttled her daughter because she was annoyed with her husband and in-laws. Investigation is on," Gupta added.
