Shower show in Lucknow from midweek

LUCKNOW: The city is expected to receive light and scattered rainfall until Tuesday after which the shower show may pick up pace, weathermen said on Sunday. Relative humidity is likely to remain high, but the sultriness may be less compared to last week.
"A low-pressure area over east UP, which was responsible for heavy showers last week, has weakened and is resulting in a decline in rainfall activity.
The rain will remain subdued for a day or two. The possibility of heavy showers is very unlikely," said state Met director JP Gupta.
On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 36.3 and 28.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Monday will be partly cloudy and rain is "very likely" in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 35 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively.
According to Lucknow University's climate monitoring station, the El Nino - characterised by warming of surface temperature in the Pacific Ocean - is associated with lower than normal monsoon rainfall in India. "The El Nino effect is basically responsible for the episodic monsoon, with only some parts of the state receiving rainfall. A shifting low-pressure area has also affected the intensity of monsoon," said station director professor Dhruv Sen Singh.
