GAYA: A criminal case under Section 420, 406, 468 and 471 of IPC has been instituted against 22 professor-rank teachers of Magadh University for allegedly helping a Nawada-based college in fraudulently managing government affiliation without infrastructure and faculty strength.
MU SHO Umesh Chandra said the case was lodged on Saturday on the basis of a complaint by university’s proctor Prof SNP Deen.

As per the complaint, the accused teachers were asked to conduct physical verification of Siya Balmiki Evening College, Nawada. They inspected the college on four occasions between 2011 and 2018 and recommended affiliation saying it fulfilled the criteria of an Evening college having working persons on its rolls. On their report, MU senate recommended affiliation to the college.
However, the state government in July 2018 refused affiliation to the college on the ground that it did not meet the requirements laid down in the statute. An aggrieved college management petitioned the high court, seeking affiliation on the basis of favourable report submitted by four different inspection teams. The court ordered the government to get the matter inquired by a high-level team.
A special secretary-rank officer conducted an inquiry and found the teachers’ recommendations manipulated as the said college did not have either the infrastructure, faculty strength or the special category students as mandated for the establishment of an Evening college.
Yet another inquiry was conducted by a three-member committee appointed by the governor-cum-chancellor. The team headed by a former VC and including an education department official also found the college lacking on the parameters and the MU inspection team’s report manipulated.
Taking serious note of the matter, the government as well as the chancellor directed MU authorities to act tough against the wrongdoers.
Asked about the identity of the teachers against whom the case has been instituted, the SHO said he did not recall the names. The proctor did not respond to the calls made at his number.
