BENGALURU: A 48-year-old film distributor and financier died after he lost control of his speeding sports bike, hit a signpost and crashed into the compound wall of an apartment on Cunningham Road on Sunday evening.
Ajay Chandani, a resident of Abshot Layout, Vasantnagar, had left home on his brand new Rs 7.5-lakh Suzuki V Strom 650 XT bike.
Around 6.30pm, when he was passing through Cunningham Road near Hoodi Apartments he lost control of his speeding bike while negotiating a minor curve and hit the signpost on the left.
The bike was sent hurtling in the air and crashed into the compound wall of the apartment, throwing Ajay to the ground.
Passersby alerted High Grounds traffic police who rushed to the spot. Ajay was shifted to Jain Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police initially thought it was a wheeling stunt gone wrong, but later said it was due to speeding. Police said there were no street lights at the accident spot.
Son of late Pal Chandani, who was one of the biggest Hindi film distributors in Bengaluru, Ajay is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Producer A Ganesh told TOI that Ajay and his father were financing movies and were major distributors of Hindi movies in Karnataka.
