Article content

One of the very cool things about Airdrie Public Library (APL), is that in the summer you don’t have to leave the sunny comforts of the lake or campground to enjoy the benefits of your free library card.

In this modern age of digital thingamajigs and Internet whatchacallits, you can borrow books, movies, music, magazines, newspapers, even comic books without stepping through the hallowed doors of a library.

I know, what’s next, groceries delivered to your front door without ever stepping foot into the grocery store?

Oh, wait, you can do that now, too.

Called eResources, you have access to a veritable feast of entertainment right there in the library in your hand – your digital device.

Whether on a cellphone, a tablet, or a laptop, if you have Internet access, you can log into your APL account from anywhere in the world, and access various digital resources, such as Cloud Library, Libby by Overdrive, Hoopla, Flipster, RB Digital, Read Alberta Books, and PressReader.

Some of these eResources can be accessed through separate free apps (Android or Apple) using your account, but each one provides access to library resources outside of a brick and mortar building.

So yes, you could be lounging in your Hawaiian T-shirt on the Big Island’s Hapuna Beach or sipping wine at a street café in the Moulin Rouge district of Paris, while reading a novel, or a magazine, or a newspaper you borrowed minutes ago with your Airdrie Public Library card.

The only thing you won’t get, will be the pleasure of seeing the smiling face of your APL customer service person as you check out your items.

But, hey, when you do return home from wherever it is you went this summer, please do stop in and tell us what you borrowed and where you were when you borrowed it.

We’d like to know.

For more information on APL’s eResources or any of the library’s programs and services, visit airdriepubliclibrary.ca, call 403-948-0600 or drop by the library.
