BAREILLY: After Bareilly MLA’s daughter and a couple from Amroha, another couple from Thakurdwara area of Moradabad has sought protection from the district police chief. They got married on July 8 against the wishes of the girl’s family and now have approached police for protection against them. The girl, Jubee, and her husband Evant Kumar belong to the same caste.
In a video message addressed to SSP Amit Pathak, the girl says that after she married the boy of her choice, her family members lodged an FIR against his parents at Thakurdwara police station on charges of abducting her.
The couple also reached the SSP office to narrate their ordeals to him.
“We have got our marriage registered in the court and now today we have arrived here to meet the SSP to explain the whole matter. However, we couldn’t meet him as he was not in office. We only want protection,” the girl said. Both of them are 21 and the girl has completed her graduation.
“In every such case, we provide police protection when sought. Every day we receive 100-odd such complaints in which complainants fear threat to their lives either from their rivals or, in some cases, their own family members. Providing police protection doesn’t mean to provide a gunner. We start patrolling in the area and, if needed, talk to the opponents and also take other measures to ensure nobody poses threat to the complainant’s life,” the SSP told TOI.
Asked if any FIR was registered in this matter, SSP said, “We are investigating the matter and any FIR is yet to be lodged.”
