Gini Wijnaldum has admitted that ‘sometimes you don’t realise’ how big Liverpool is as he commented on the size of the club outside of Europe.

The senior Reds ace also lauded the return of attacking duo Rhian Brewster and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who were on the sidelines for the most part of last season due to injury.

They are now part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season plans as they will be looking to make their mark on the Liverpool team ahead of the new campaign.

Wijnaldum commented on the size of the Merseyside club and the return of Brewster and Oxlade-Chamberlain who he feels will be like ‘new players’ to the squad.

“Sometimes you don’t realise how big the club is;” Wijinaldum told Liverpool’s official website. “The club is in Europe but even when you travel abroad to Asia or America you see how big this club is because a lot of people support Liverpool and a lot of people know the club.

“We already knew they were quality players but unfortunately they were injured last season and had more or less their own programme

“But before they got injured we knew how good they are. The manager said they are like new players and it’s also [the same] for us. We’re going to add their quality to the squad so it’s going to be even better than before.”

A big season awaits Oxlade-Chamberlain and Brewster because if they can stay fit then they will provide Klopp with some much-needed attacking depth.

Oxlade-Chamberlain will, in particular, be important because he is the more senior and proven player, not forgetting that his attacking threat from the middle of the park can transform this Liverpool side to a whole new level.
