1mm rain, and Hyderabad roads turn into pools
The IMD, Hyderabad, has predicted more rainfall over Hyderabad and the rest of the state later this week and light showers, moderate or thundershowers over the next few days.
Several parts of the city were soaked in showers on Tuesday afternoon. The average rain recorded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, was 1.1mm till 8.30pm on Tuesday. LB Nagar received highest rainfall of 40 mm. The sky remained overcast throughout the evening.
The scattered showers that began in the afternoon brought respite to citizens after monsoon activity was subdued for a few days.
Since the onset of monsoon in mid-June, the weather has been unpredictable with the rain been playing hide-and-seek over the city. However, in the last 24 hours, many areas across the city have seen widespread rain. Areas such as LB Nagar, Himayat Nagar, Nampally, Serlingampally, Asif Nagar, Shaikpet, Banjara Hills, Somajiguda, Moti Nagar, Moosapet, Mehdipatnam, Hitec City, Gachibowli, SR Nagar and Tolichowki received rain in the evening.
The IMD, Hyderabad, has predicted more rainfall over Hyderabad and the rest of the state later this week and light showers, moderate or thundershowers over the next few days. “The entire state, including Hyderabad, will see rain for about one week starting from July 18. There will also be heavy rainfall in a few places in the next few days. As of now, we have rainfall in just about 25-30% area across the state. From July 18, the rain will cover over 50% of the areas,” said YK Reddy, director, IMD Hyderabad.
Social media was abuzz with rain updates, as residents shared their joy. Mohammed Imran Alam @ReportExpert tweeted, “Pure joy in witnessing the monsoon rains here in Hyderabad. Loving the nostalgic moments of rain forcing you to take shelter and give your motorcycle some rest.”
