HYDERABAD: As part of a massive plantation drive, 1,500 saplings were planted at the
University of Hyderabad campus on Tuesday. The drive was conducted by The Times of India and Aveva, in association with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Over 300 officials and dignitaries participated in the event.
“Our aim this year is to plant as many as 6,000 saplings.
Today we started with 1,500, the remaining will be planted in due course. These plants will be maintained by GHMC,” said Rajendra Kumar, deputy director, GHMC. He added, “We have been looking after the saplings planted on this campus last year and the survival rate is 90%.”
Speakers at the event unanimously emphasised the need for such drives to protect the environment and save the world from global warming. They stressed how trees play a vital role in controlling heatwaves and is the only way to save the world from the dangers of global warming.
Among others present for the drive were James Kidd, deputy CEO and CFO of Aveva and Nevtej Garewal, executive vice-president of Aveva.
