PUNE: A 24-year-old software engineer from Hinjewadi was duped of Rs35,000 by a fraudster who promised to sell her a used scooter on an online shopping platform.
On July 12, the techie transferred the money to the seller. When he started demanding more money, she became suspicious and stopped taking his calls. After realising that she had been duped, the woman approached the Hinjewadi police on Monday and lodged an FIR.
While going through the app of an online shopping portal, the techie liked a used scooter and contacted the seller.
“The person introduced himself as an army man and told her that he wanted to sell off his scooter as he has been transferred,” police said.
In all, the woman transferred Rs35,000 to him but he started demanding more money on the pretext of paying some charges. “The woman became suspicious and approached the police,” police said.
