GREATER NOIDA: Under the government’s Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Noida administration has launched a week-long drive, “Save Water, Save Life”, from Tuesday. The drive will continue till July 22. Under the drive, around 35 ponds have been identified in Jewar that are to be restored or developed. The administration has also started a survey of nearly 900 waterbodies in the district that would be allocated to various departments for maintenance.

“I was in Jewar where we have identified 35 ponds that would be restored, developed and some new ones are to be dug up. The administration has also started a survey of nearly 900 water bodies in the district, which would be maintained by the departments concerned. The report will be ready by next week,” B N Singh, the district magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar, told TOI.
He has also directed all government buildings to ensure immediate functioning of rain water harvesting pits.
“I have directed all authorities and officials to ensure proper functioning of the pits in their buildings. The administration will provide funds to create or repair pits. I have also directed the authorities to start issuing penalties for non-performing pits. The process has begun and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has assured action within a week,” said Singh, adding that the aim is to generate a mass movement on water conservation.
At Humayunpur, Jewar, MLA Dhirendra Singh apprised local residents of water conservation and afforestation measures.
“The Jal Shakti Abhiyan should create a significant campaign like the Swachh Bharat Mission and for this, all stakeholders, residents in both rural and urban areas, have to come forward with measures to conserve water at source – starting from their homes and fields,” he said.
