Fake medicine gang
Nine members of a gang which allegedly sold fake anti-cancer drugs to patients have been arrested, the Shanghai Railway Transport Procuratorate said yesterday. According to prosecutors, suspects Tang and Wu set up a biotech company in October 2016 and began producing so-called “anti-cancer drugs” without any license. Tang decocted some herbs and produced “medicine” by diluting and distilling the mixture. They claimed the medicine could treat cancer and some viral diseases. Tang also opened a TCM clinic in October last year and sold fake drugs by employing licensed doctors to prescribe them. In March this year, the pair and 13 other people in their gang were detained by police.
