Undercover Melbourne detectives have charged two more people amid an ongoing prostitution crackdown in the neighborhood surrounding Riverview Park.

Police released details Wednesday morning of a covert weekend operation along the U.S. 1 corridor between Prospect Avenue and University Boulevard.

A detective posed as a “john” who was seeking a prostitute — and both suspects offered to perform a sexual act for $40, arrest affidavits showed.

Dawn Carter, 47, of Melbourne was charged with felony solicitation to commit prostitution at W.H. Jackson and Lipscomb streets. She also had a misdemeanor arrest warrant.

Carter remains incarcerated at the Brevard County Jail Complex on $5,000 bond, and will be arraigned Aug. 8 at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.

Sarah Cushing-Meade, 34, a Palm Bay homeless woman, was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution and possession of drug paraphernalia at U.S. 1 and Jernigan Avenue, according to reports.

Cushing-Meade had a “stem,” or a glass tube used to smoke crack cocaine, arrest affidavit showed.

She was released from jail Saturday, and will be arraigned Aug. 12 at the Melbourne Courthouse.

The Special Investigations Unit covert prostitution operation occurred from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The topic drew City Hall attention after neighbors complained of “a constant stream of prostitutes” near Riverview Park during the June 11 Melbourne City Council meeting.

Police arrested seven suspects during a pair of similar prostitution stings in late June in the same area. Melbourne police have conducted at least seven undercover prostitution operations this year in the Prospect Avenue-Riverview Park area.
