GAYA: After a lull, Maoists have seemed to have changed track to lay pressure mines in several parts of Gaya and Aurangabad district to cause explosion during the operations conducted by the CoBRA and other forces.
Reports reaching the divisional headquarters said that a top Maoist leader and a member of the central committee of the banned organization, Pramod Mishra, after his release from jail is trying to revive it and protect the dwindling turf of the Reds.
Mishra was in jail for about eight years and was released on bail a few months back.
Reports say that pressure mines explodes once the jawans walk on the explosives concealed beneath the earth and boulders. A high-level meet was held in Gaya on Tuesday to formulate the strategy to de-mine the affected areas and to facilitate smooth execution of the operation to combat the menace.
A SP rank officer of the National Security Guards (NSG) participated in the meet. NSG has got special skills in dealing with IEDs. The premier organisation, according to sources, is likely to join the operations in Magadh region to neutralise the IEDs.
The meet participants included Sushil Khopade, IG operations, CRPF IG Charu Sinha, SSB IG Sanjay Kumar, Magadh range DIG Vinay Kumar and Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra. Asked about the deliberations held for anti-Naxal operations, Sushil Khopade IG (operations) refused to share information for reasons of secrecy. “The situation is fully under control and most of the financial channels of the banned organization have been blocked. The anti-Red operation will continue and we will not allow their strategy to succeed,” said Khopade. He also refused to comment on the likely role of NSG in de- mining the affected areas.
“Confidence building efforts to boost the morale of the people living in Maoist-hit areas will continue,” the IG(operations) added.
