AGAWAM – Students are learning hands-on this summer through several activities at Robinson Park Elementary School in Agawam.

Camp SEEK, lead by STEAM teacher Tammy Rumplik, offers a number of stations for kids to learn at by participating in activities. Activities include supplies such as Lego bricks, paper and food coloring, iPads, building sets and water balloons.

Each week, a new group of elementary-age children participate in the program. Activities are themed each day and students learn science concepts through fun.

Rumplik said, “Camp SEEK runs for three weeks in the summer with a cap of around 25 students so we can assure small group instruction. We do a variety of hands-on science stations that include robotics, engineering, art, physical science and movement as well as traditional science experiments.  We have a day of edible science, coding and robotics, and Legopallooza where we do Lego building challenges and Lego robotics and coding. We are doing a Digging Dinos Day, Oceanology, Cool Chemistry with the UMASS polymers lab, and POP science [which is] all things popular. We did sharks measurement activities [and] used virtual reality goggles to see sharks, too.  The camp runs for three weeks in July and runs from 9 to 3.  The staff are certified science educators with a combined total of over 45 years teaching experience.”
