Anegha Narayan won a silver medal in the women’s 49-kilogramme taekwondo event yesterday.

Narayan who is about to turn 19 in the next few days lost to Australia’s top seed Christoffel Tamzin in the gold medal playoff.

“It was a good learning experience,” said the Suva Sangam College Year 13 student.

“I really need to work hard. I played Australia’s number one and I gave my 100 percent but this tournament has taught me the importance of sacrifice and how to work harder.”

Narayan said when she returns home she would need to be more serious with her training.

“We’ll need to work hard for the development of the sport, when I go back I guess we should be pushing for more training.”

Narayan was fortunate to have her proud dad Nimesh Narayan among the spectators supporting her.

“I’m proud to have my dad here with me, he inspired me to take-up taekwondo. I’m happy to have my dad here with me.

Meanwhile, the men’s failed to compete in the team event due to injuries. Three athletes were injured and could not form a team of five.
