Olympian Winston Hill is out of contention of a gold medal win in the welterweight category of the Pacific Games boxing event currently underway in Savaii, Samoa.

He lost after a head clash yesterday.

The clash left his opponent with an open cut above the right eye in the second round, section manager Tulele Logavatu said.

“The referee stopped the bout and it went to judges’ score cards.”

Fiji is also out of gold contention in the heavyweight, light heavyweight and middleweight division.

However, Logavatu confirmed that Fiji are still in the running for a gold medal in the light welterweight where Jone Koroilagilagi Davule his fight alongside lightweight Elia Rokobuli and bantamweight’s Zoheb Ali.

In the middleweight category, Jonathan Hill lost his fight after Referee Stop Contest (RSC) against New Caledonia in the middleweight category.

Doctors had to stop the fight after Hill sustained a fractured nose.
