PDA will complete the full five years term unhindered
Kohima, 17 July 2019
1) The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) was formed between the NDPP and BJP prior to the 2018 General Elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The pre-poll alliance and the agreement to jointly contest the assembly elections with a seat sharing formula was announced in Guwahati on 3rd February, 2018 by the then Union Minister of State for Home, Shri Kiren Rijiju in the presence of NDPP leader Shri Neiphiu Rio and other senior BJP leaders. The two parties announced to contest as one pre-poll alliance entity with NDPP contesting in 40 seats and BJP contesting 20 seats. The PDA election campaign was launched at Mon town jointly by union MoS Shri Kiren Rijiju and Shri Neiphiu Rio on 14th February, 2018.
2) The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi addressed the PDA Election Rally in Tuensang town on 22nd February 2018, wherein the Prime Minister announced that the PDA would be led by Chief Ministerial candidate Shri Neiphiu Rio. The rally was attended by senior leaders of the NDA and PDA including Shri Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of the BJP.
3) With the support of the people, the pre-poll alliance of PDA won the mandate of the electorate by winning in 30 assembly constituencies thereby emerging as the single largest entity of the 2018 assembly election.
4) On 8th March, 2018, the PDA Government was sworn in at the official public swearing in ceremony at the Kohima Local Ground with Shri Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Minister and Shri. Y. Patton as the Deputy Chief Minister. The historic ceremony was attended by BJP National President Shri Amit Shah, Union Defence Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman, Union MoS (Home) Shri Kiren Rijiju, BJP National General Secretary Shri Ram Madhav, and the Chief Ministers of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and several other senior national and regional leaders.
5) Subsequently the PDA has fielded consensus candidates for one bye election to the Lok Sabha in 2018, the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 and a bye lection in the Aonglenden assembly constituency under Mokokchung district. The PDA consensus candidates emerged victorious in all these three elections.
6) In view of all the above facts, the PDA is going from strength to strength and the cohesiveness and teamwork within the alliance continues to grow and improve. We extend our appreciation and gratefulness to the people of Nagaland for the overwhelming support that we have received and we assure all the citizens that we will continue to strive tirelessly for the welfare of the State. We also sincerely appeal to all sections to come forward and participate in our collective endeavour of bringing progressive change.
7) The PDA is a pre-poll sacred coalition and is supported by the highest leadership of the country. We assure the people that the PDA is based and founded on mutual trust and collective responsibility and we will ensure that this alliance will complete the full five years term unhindered. We are prepared to face any hurdle in a united manner which is in the greater interest of the citizens of Nagaland.
