Vice president of Vietnam described visit to Cuba as fruitful and memorable

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) - Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, described her official visit to Cuba prior to departure at José Martí International Airport as fruitful and memorable; in particular the meeting with Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, and reaffirmed the ties of brotherhood between both countries and encouraged the implementation of cooperation agreements.

Thi Ngoc Thinh five-day official visit to Cuba began with friendly meetings with Cuban officials and exchanges about the close ties of brotherhood that unite the two peoples, parties and governments, as well as the respective experiences in the construction of Socialism. Conversations were held about the excellent state of bilateral relations and the implementation of the agreements between Vietnam and Cuba and issues on the international agenda.

Thi Ngoc Thinh five-day official also included visits to socio-economic projects, meetings with personalities from the political and business spheres and the celebration of Vietnam Days in Cuba, - a look at the traditions and identity of the Indochinese nation through art.

In an exclusive statement for the Cuban News Agency, Nguyen Trung Thanh, Vietnam's ambassador to Cuba, said that the vice president's meetings with community leaders and local institutions were very fruitful and recognized the support of all parties in fulfilling an intense agenda.

We are totally pleased with this visit and its satisfactory results, including the rice fields of Pinar del Rio, projects of Vietnamese companies in the Special Zone of Mariel Development and others, but the main impact, in my opinion, is in the field of ideas, emphasized the diplomat.

'In this aspect the commitment and the need to be more creative and energetic to promote new projects that materialize the historical bonds of brotherhood in concrete proposals of collaboration, as we have done in recent years,' he said.

Currently, the South Asian nation is Cuba's second largest trading partner in Asia and Oceania. Trade between the two countries in 2018 experienced a considerable increase, reaching $335 million, and a recent trade agreement proposes to increase that figure to $500 million by 2022.
