HOWRAH: Four Odisha-based businessmen were killed and another was injured when their car hit a truck on NH6 at Howrah’s Dhulagarh in the early hours of Wednesday.
The businessmen were returning to Bhubaneswar from Kolkata in their car when it hit the truck heading for Kolaghat in an adjoining lane of NH6. Both the vehicles were driving in the same direction around 4 am.

Hearing a loud bang, cops in a nearby patrol van reached the spot. The car was smashed and stuck beneath the truck. A gas cutter was brought and the car had to be separated from the truck before the travellers could be rescued.
The five businessmen were taken in an ambulance to Uluberia State General Hospital where doctors declared Manoj Mahanti (35), Dilip Naik (30), Tejaswi Rao (37) and Digvijay Das (40) dead on arrival.
An injured Krishna Rao (36) was taken to Kolkata’s NRS Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. The truck was also partially damaged in the accident. Howrah SP Soumya Ray said, “We suspect the businessman driving the car had dozed off and lost control over the vehicle. We will speak to the injured, admitted to hospital, to understand how the accident happened.’’
