Consultative meet agrees on RIIN, with caveat

Exercise only after final modalities agreed among stakeholders

DIMAPUR, JULY 17 (MExN): A consultative meeting held among Nagaland legislators, tribal hohos, civil society organizations, NGOs and government officials on the exercise for creation of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) on Wednesday at State Banquet Hall, Kohima.

According to a DIPR report, the house unanimously resolved to support and extend cooperation to the State Government for implementation of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).

However, it comes with some caveat. It was resolved that the process of enumeration for implementation of RIIN would be carried out only after consultations with all stake holders and the final modalities/guidelines are agreed upon.”

Earlier in the meeting, the tribal hohos and civil society organisations were given an opportunity to express their thoughts and suggestions for effective implementation of RIIN. All the tribal hohos and CSOs present endorsed the decision of the State Government for creation of the RIIN and desire to support the initiative of the government.

However, they also asked the government to give sufficient time to have further discussion on the matter and suggested the necessity to work out clear and practical modalities to be adopted while exercising the RIIN, the DIPR report stated.

Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio in his remarks called upon all the tribal hohos and civil society organizations to cooperate with the government in this endeavour. He said the government alone would not be able to carry out this task and as such urged all concerned to be part of this exercise by way of engaging themselves with the common people at the grassroots level.
