Nine killed in bus-van collision near Villupuram

The private bus was going from Coimbatore to Chennai.

Nine Persons were killed and 14 others sustained injuries when an omni bus and a van collided head-on at Emaper near Kallakurichi early Thursday.

The identity of the victims is yet to be ascertained. Police said the omni bus was going from Coimbatore to Chennai while the pick up van, carrying 14 persons for contract work, was going from Uthiramerur to Kangeyam.

Police said the van was being driven at a high speed and the driver had dozed off at the wheel when he reached Emaper.

The stretch from Emaper to Kallakurichi where the two vehicles collided head on was a two-lane.

Police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem to the Government Hospital in Kallakurichi.

Drivers of both the vehicles were killed in the accident, police said.
