Kathy Griffin throws shade at Anderson Cooper by saying she knew his late mother Gloria Vanderbilt 'better'... as she continues feud with journalist

Comedian Kathy Griffin continued her press tour for her upcoming documentary/comedy special Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story, where she also continued her feud with Anderson Cooper.

The 58-year-old comedian and actress appeared on AM to DM on Wednesday, where the talk ultimately turned to Cooper and his late mother Gloria Vanderbilt.

Griffin discusses in the movie how hard it was to lose her relationship with Cooper, but when asked if she has spoken to Cooper since then, she seemingly shaded Cooper by saying she knew his mother better than he did.

When asked if she had spoken to Cooper since his mother passed away at the age of 95 back in June, she said Cooper is, 'not really wired that way.'

'Anderson Cooper and Jeff Zucker are cut from the same cloth … a lot of these older white guys hate me, and they’ve hated me for years, because I’ve been a ballsy chick my whole career and I’ve never learned my lesson.'

Griffin and Cooper were friends for many years, but that abruptly ended, after Cooper publicly bashed Griffin for her 2017 photo of her holding a fake decapitated head of Donald Trump.

Cooper spoke out, saying the photo was, 'disgusting and completely inappropriate,' which marked the beginning of the end of their friendship, though Cooper said on Watch What Happens Live in 2017 that they're still friends.

'We’re still friends. Look, I mean, I said what I said about [it] — I didn’t think what she said was appropriate,' Cooper said on Cohen's show.

'But I wish her the best and I hope she bounces back. She’s incredibly funny and a lot of people love her,” he added. “I think she’ll bounce back from this.”

Griffin said that the first third of the movie is very 'raw' with the interviewer bringing up how she was seen crying on camera, asking why she wanted to show herself so vulnerable like that.

'Because a big part of the message of this movie is I took a rather infamous photo over two years ago, myself holding a Trump mask with ketchup on it, that then went to TMZ and then the White House, the Trump family, the Department of Justice, spread it out in the news sphere around the world within hours, and then linked me to ISIS, as in saying "Kathy Griffin has joined ISIS.'

She added her joining ISIS was 'not plausible at all that she could even join the terrorist organization, but added, 'it became a real thing.'

She then said that she was put under federal investigation, and even put on the no-fly list while also being 'interrogated under oath... which has never happened in the history of this country.'

Griffin said the feds were considering charging here with, 'conspiracy to assassinate the President of the United States.'

'So, I wanted to make this film to really show I didn't break the law, I didn't violate the First Amendment in any way,' she said.

'You can be as offended by that photo as you want, but what I really wanted people to know that if you or one of your kids puts up a photo like that, they shouldn't have to go through that,' she said.

'It was unprecedented, but I feel like we're seeing so many dog whistles now and this administration has done so many crazy things,' she added.

Griffin then implored young people to 'get active,' adding they should run for office and vote for their local representatives, even city council.

'I really was really in love with Anderson's mom, the great Gloria Vanderbilt. She let me call her GloVandy and she gave me so many life lessons. I actually kinda knew her better than Anderson, in a way,' Griffin said.

She added that she hears her voice every day, offering pearls of wisdom like, 'Your life can change with one phone call.'

'She would always tell me, "There's always more, and you're never done," and being a workhorse, I loved that,' Griffin said.

Griffin's new film, Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story, directed by Troy Miller, is slated to hit theaters in limited release on July 31.
